THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FATHERS AND LIGHTHOUSES

THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FATHERS AND LIGHTHOUSES

There are similarities between Fathers and Lighthouses. Both serve as beacons of guiding light, knowledge and wisdom, protection and shelter and unwavering love and support. Along many shorelines stand lighthouses that provide a steady light to guide the ship through dangerous waters to safety. Likewise, fathers play an important role in their children’s lives by guiding them through many life’s challenges. It is my privilege during this year’s Father’s Day celebration to explore the striking similarities between lighthouses and fathers, navigating their roles as the pillar protection, strength, support, and wisdom. I will also attempt to use relevant biblical texts to illustrate these similarities.

Proverbs 20:7 says that “the righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”

THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FATHERS AND LIGHTHOUSE

AS A BEACON OF GUIDING LIGHT

Just as the fathers and lighthouses serve as a beacon of guiding lights, fathers are a

constant source of guiding direction to their children and entire family. In the same manner, the lighthouses serve as a steady and an unwavering source of light that guides the ship to navigate treacherous water as they find their way to safety.

AS A SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM

Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father and give attention to know understanding”

Fathers embody a great wealth of wisdom acquire through life experiences just as the lighthouses are built on the bedrock of solid foundations and equipped with equipment that

has vast knowledge of the waters and it’s surroundings. The wisdom of fathers are rooted in life’s lessons and their inherent love with which they impart valuable lessons to their children to use to navigate the challenges the world throws at them.

THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FATHERS AND LIGHTHOUSES

AS PROTECTION AND SHELTER

Psalm 91: 1 – 2 reminds us that, “He who dwells in shelter of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord. ‘He is my refuge and my fortress my God, in Him I will trust.”

One of the main roles of fathers are that of providing a shelter and a secure protection for their children and family. While the lighthouses serve as a symbol of hope, protection and safety for the sailors and ships.

Likewise, fathers mirror God’s divine role as our protector and shelter to ensure that their family feels secured when they are around.

AS AN UNSHKEABLE SUPPORT

In difficult times, father’s ought to serve as pillars of strength, reassurance, encouragement with an unwavering love in the lives of their children. Lighthouses are built to stand firm and tall, unwavering in the face of a treacherous storm. They are built to outlast the pounding of the waves and harsh winds in order to accomplish their role of guiding and protecting the ship and sailors.

The Apostles letter to the Corinthians in First Corinthians 16:13 reminds us that fathers should be strong and unwavering. It says:

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”

In conclusion, fathers and lighthouses are indeed similar in their roles as beacons of guiding

light, knowledge and wisdom, protection and shelter and unwavering love and support. These aforementioned attributes serve to remind us that God intended for fathers to emulate God’s divine attributes of love and protection in their lives.
